REBUILT POWERHEAD BREAK IN PROCEDURES
FOLLOWING THE PROPER BREAK IN PROCEDURES WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR OUTBOARD MOTOR AND GIVE YOU PEAK PERFORMANCE FOR YEARS TO COME.
1. DURING THE ENTIRE 10 1/2 HOUR BREAK IN PROCESS THE MOTOR WILL NEED TO BURN TWICE AS MUCH OIL.
1.A) IF YOUR MOTOR IS OIL INJECTED THEN YOU MUST ADD OIL TO YOUR FUEL TANK. THIS NEEDS TO BE A 50:1 RATIO. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE OIL THAT THE OIL INJECTION SYSTEM IS PROVIDING YOUR POWERHEAD.
1.B) IF YOUR REBUILT POWERHEAD DOES NOT HAVE OIL INJECTION THEN YOU MUST ADD OIL TO YOUR GASOLINE TANK AT A RATE OF 25:1

2. IDLE YOUR NEWLY REBUILT POWERHEAD FOR AT LEAST 1/2 HOUR IN NEUTRAL. USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AND UNUSUAL SOUNDS.
3. PUT YOUR BOAT UP ON PLANE THEN RETURN ENGINE SPEED TO LESS THAN 3500 RPM. WHILE KEEPING YOUR BOAT ON PLANE, OCCASIONALLY CHANGE THE RPMS WITHOUT EXCEEDING 3500 RPM. OPERATE BOAT IN THIS MANNER FOR 5 HOURS.
4. FOLLOW ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS USING 4500 RPM AS YOUR NEW LIMIT FOR 5 HOURS.
4.A) IF YOU EVER EXPERIENCE AN UNEXPECTED DROP IN RPM REDUCE MOTOR TO IDLE SPEED IMMEDIATELY AND RETURN TO SHORE. THIS IS A SIGN OF A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. A DIAGNOSES AND REPAIR ARE NEEDED BEFORE SAFE OPERATION OF YOUR BOAT CAN CONTINUE. PROLONGED OPERATION OF YOUR MOTOR AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE WILL SHORTEN THE LIFE OF YOUR OUTBOARD POWERHEAD.
